“Brilliant call, teams should use it more often” – Twitter reacts after Krunal Pandya retires hurt at 49 against MI

Lucknow Super Giants are playing against Mumbai Indians in the 63rd match of the sixteenth edition of the Indian Premier League. The highly-competitive fixture is being staged at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow.

Mumbai Indians’ captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and invited Krunal Pandya-led Lucknow Super Giants to bat first. The Lucknow Super Giants got off to a worst start to the game as they lost the opening pair – Deepak Hooda (5) and Quinton de Kock (16) early on in the game.

LSG team management decided to promote Deepak Hooda as an opener but that didn’t pay off. Prerak Mankad failed to bring the best out of himself at No.3 as he was dismissed for a first-ball duck.

Krunal Pandya retires hurt at 49

On a slow and tough batting wicket, LSG skipper Krunal Pandya tried to show some resistance when it mattered the most. While batters tend to throw their wickets away by playing shots out of frustration, on this wicket, Krunal Pandya went about his business quite cleverly.

He assessed the conditions and played according to the situation which helped the team get runs. While he was en route to scoring a fifty, he retired hurt at 49 off 42 balls against Mumbai Indians after the 16th over.

Notably, Krunal Pandya and Marcus Stoinis added a 82-run stand, which is highest partnership for any wicket in Lucknow this season. Skipper Krunal Pandya batted at a strike rate of 116.67 which was pretty decent considering the nature of the pitch. After he retired hurt, Nicholas Pooran came out to bat.
