Twitter Reacts To India Becoming Number 1 Team In ICC Test Rankings

India has become the number one team in the ICC Test Rankings by beating New Zealand in the Mumbai Test match. The 2-Test series between India and New Zealand began last month in Kanpur. Fans expected the battle between the two finalists of the inaugural ICC World Test Championship to be an entertaining one, and they got the same thing in the short series.

Ajinkya Rahane captained the Indian cricket team in the first Test. In a closely-contested match at Green Park, India missed out on a win because of some solid defense shown by Rachin Ravindra and Ajaz Patel. They survived the final overs and denied India a win. India missed out on the win by just one wicket.

The action then moved to Mumbai. Virat Kohli returned to India, while Ajinkya Rahane got injured. Even Kane Williamson picked up an injury. So Tom Latham captained the visitors. India totally outplayed the Blackcaps at the Wankhede Stadium and registered their biggest win in terms of runs in Test cricket history.

India batted first and scored 325 runs, riding on Mayank Agarwal’s hundred. Ajaz Patel took all 10 wickets for the visitors. However, in reply, the Kiwis could only score 62 runs, recording the lowest total in a Test match on Indian soil. The home side then set a 540-run target for the New Zealand team.

Mayank Agarwal’s fifty helped India score 276 runs in the second innings and extend their lead beyond 500 runs. Chasing 540, Daryl Mitchell and Henry Nicholls tried their best, but they could not save the Test. Ravichandran Ashwin took a four-wicket haul in both innings, while Jayant Yadav scalped four in the second innings as India won by 372 runs.
