The IPL 2022 Mega Auction is fast approaching. The 10 franchises will decide the future of hundreds of cricketers from across the planet. New Zealand’s cricketers have performed well in the IPL over the last few years, and one of them is Mitchell Santner. He did not receive enough chances to play for the Chennai Super Kings, but he performed well whenever he got the opportunity to don the CSK jersey.
Unfortunately, because of the IPL 2022 Mega Auction rules, defending champions Chennai Super Kings have let go of their New Zealand all-rounder Mitchell Santner. The all-rounder is a part of the mega auction pool. Quite a few franchises will be interested in his services because he is a left-arm spinner and a handy batter. Just before the mega auction, he has proven himself as an all-rounder by scoring 92 runs in the Super Smash T20 Final.
The Super Smash is the premier T20 event of New Zealand. Like there is IPL in India, there is Super Smash in New Zealand. Santner played for the Northern Districts team in the summit clash of the tournament against the Canterbury team.
The Canterbury squad had the likes of Matt Henry, Todd Astle and Daryl Mitchell in their bowling attack. However, that did not stop Santner from scoring 92 runs off just 40 deliveries for his team.

Katene Clarke provided an excellent start to the Northern Districts by scoring a half-century at the top. However, the team was down to 77/3 after the trio of Colin de Grandhomme, Tim Seifert and captain Jeet Raval lost their wickets. Santner surprisingly came out to bat at the number five position and hit 92 runs from 40 balls, smashing four fours and nine sixes.
His contribution took Northern Districts to 217/5 in 20 overs. Chasing 218 to win, Canterbury were all out for 161 runs in 18.5 overs. Tim Southee and Ish Sodhi accounted for three wickets each, while Santner bowled a decent spell of 1/23.
After such an impressive performance in the Super Smash T20 Final, the chances of Santner earning a mega contract at the IPL 2022 Auction are very high. It will be interesting to see which team signs the all-rounder.
