Reports: Sunrisers Hyderabad may play without six overseas players in rescheduled IPL 2021

The Sunrisers Hyderabad did not have a memorable outing in the first half of the IPL 2021 season. They registered only one win in seven matches. The fans hoped for a better performance from the Orange Army in the second half. However, it seems the same may not be possible.

Earlier, England men’s team’s Director of Cricket Ashley Giles stated that the English players would not be available in case IPL 2021 resumes in September. Now, according to a report by India TV News, players from New Zealand and Afghanistan may also be unavailable for the rescheduled leg of IPL 2021.

According to India TV News, New Zealand will play three ODIs and three T20Is versus the Pakistan cricket team in September. This series will take place in the United Arab Emirates. The source claims that this series cannot be postponed or canceled.

As far as the Afghanistan cricket team is concerned, the Afghan players will play ODIs against Pakistan. This series will be under the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League. Hence, as per the source, even the star Afghan players will likely miss out.

Sunrisers Hyderabad will only have two foreign players left

If the above-mentioned report proves to be true, then Sunrisers Hyderabad will be in deep trouble. Their captain Kane Williamson will be on international duty. Rashid Khan, Mujeeb ur Rahman and Mohammad Nabi will also miss out. Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow were already doubtful to play after Giles’ statement.

Hence, only David Warner and Jason Holder will be available for SRH. It will be interesting to see what happens next in this direction. The BCCI might not conduct IPL 2021 in September if so many players are unavailable. Even if the board allows to sign replacements for these players, it might still be tough for the teams to maintain a balance in their squad.
