Chennai Super Kings player Ruturaj Gaikwad is literally in red hot form. He plays for Maharashtra in domestic cricket and recently he has set the stage on fire in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022. Maharashtra might have lost the final of the tournament against Saurashtra but we just can not deny that Ruturaj Gaikwad was the star of the tournament. He scored 660 runs in just 5 matches at an insane average of 220 and that includes a terrific double century too. In the quarter final, against Uttar Pradesh (the match where he scored his double century) he made a record by hitting 7 sixes in one over (including one on a no ball). After these brilliant performances, he has obviously become a contender for a spot in India’s ODI team. Ravichandran Ashwin has recently spoken out about Ruturaj Gaikwad’s form and his chances in the Indian side in his latest YouTube video.
Ravichandran Ashwin said that Ruturaj Gaikwad is definitely one of the prime contenders for a spot in the Indian team but just look at the player he is up against. Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant are all fighting for that same opening spot in the team and he thinks that it is really unfair for the youngster. After his recent performances, he definitely deserves a spot in the national team but playing for India is so competitive nowadays that it is genuinely difficult to play cricket in the nation.
However, he all-rounder is also sure that Gaikwad’s time will come and he will set the stage on fire in no time at all.
Ruturaj Gaikwad will also have the 2023 IPL to prove his worth. His recent Target should be to get into India’s squad for the 2023 ODI World Cup. For that, he shall first find a spot in India’s ODI teams for the many series that they play in and after that, he’ll need to impress everyone with his performances.
