Sam Curran reacts to his edited photo with the IPL trophy

Sam Curran had to return home due to lower back injury before the IPL playoffs

Sam Curran has reacted to an Instagram post of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) where they photoshopped and put in a picture of Sam with the entire team posing with the IPL trophy after their triumph in IPL 2021.

Sam Curran was a very important part of the CSK set-up in the first leg of the IPL in India and had a role to play in CSK’s wonderful start to the campaign.

However, the English left-hander, unfortunately, suffered a lower back injury during the second leg of the IPL in the UAE and got ruled out, not just from the IPL, but from the T20 World Cup as well.

Because of his contributions in the first leg of the tournament, it was only fitting that Sam had a picture with the trophy, even if edited. Sam himself commented on that photoshopped picture posted by CSK on Instagram and wrote, “Special, thank you”.

Sam Curran was the shining light for CSK during the last IPL as well

Even during the last IPL season where the CSK squad was struggling collectively, it was Sam Curran who was the shining light for the men in yellow as he regularly put in quality performances with both bat and ball.

While Sam returned to England after the scans showed he couldn’t take any further part in IPL 2021 or in the T20 World Cup, he kept a regular tab on the performances of CSK and wished them good luck ahead of the semi-final and the final.

Sam also posted quite a few tweets while the final match was on, particularly at a time when KKR had got a good start in reply to the target of 193 set by CSK.

Sam didn’t have the opportunity to do much in the second leg of IPL 2021, but since he is young and has the ability to contribute with both bat and ball in the future, CSK might consider retaining him ahead of the mega auction.

However, it will also depend on how many retentions of overseas and Indian players, BCCI allows to the 8 respective teams. No final decision regarding that has been made by the board yet.

Even if CSK is not able to retain Sam, there is a high possibility they will go for Sam in the open auction and try and buy him back because of the consistency he has shown for the team in the last two seasons.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
