Former Pakistan cricket team fast bowler Mohammad Asif recently gave his views on the similarities in the playing styles of current Pakistan skipper Babar Azam and former Indian cricket team skipper Sachin Tendulkar.
Asif, who played for Pakistan in the ICC T20 World Cup 2007 and finished runners-up with the team, was one of the top fast bowlers of his time. He also played for the Delhi Daredevils team in the inaugural edition of the Indian Premier League, but his career derailed after his involvement in a fixing scandal.
Recently, Asif talked about the batting style of Babar Azam, and here’s what he was quoted as saying by PakPassion:
“Babar Azam is an upper-hand batsman like Sachin and he is fluent like Sachin in the way he plays his shots.”
Babar Azam has become one of the top all-format batters in world cricket over the last few years. Many fans and cricket universe have opined that Azam deserves a place in the Fab 4 group alongside Virat Kohli, Kane Williamson, Joe Root and Steve Smith.
The right-handed batter has also done an impressive job as the captain of the Pakistan cricket team. He has led from the front by scoring runs at the top. Last year, Pakistan won their first-ever T20 World Cup match against the Indian cricket team while playing under Babar’s leadership.
Babar Azam will be in action against Australia in a home series soon
Pakistan cricket team will soon host Australia in all three formats. The Men in Green will play a historic series, and they will be keen to register win in this series so as to establish their position as contenders for a spot in the ICC World Test Championship final.
Babar Azam will captain the home side. Sachin Tendulkar had an enviable record against Australia, and it will be interesting to see if Azam can play well against the Aussies.
