Former Indian veteran batsman Sunil Gavaskar has forecast the chances of Shikhar Dhawan’s inclusion in the squad of the T20 world cup for the Indian team. Shikhar Dhawan has been staying away from the doors of the Indian team for a very long time and his shady performance in the latest edition of the Indian Premier League has weakened his prospects for the Indian cricket team as per Sunil Gavaskar.
KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan, and Ruturaj Gaikwad are the three batsmen who replace the veteran Shikhar Dhawan and the inclusion of these three young guns is also a favorable equation for the coach Rahul Dravid. But Shikhar is struggling hard in domestic cricket to get back his long-hidden form which we have seen about a year before. Thus when asked about him, Sunil Gavaskar answered Star Sports, “No, I don’t see that. If it had to pop up it would have been in this squad”.
“Because a lot of the guys have gone to England. It would have been in this squad. If he’s not in this squad, I don’t see his name in the mix”. “I will wait as there are still plenty of T20 matches before the World Cup. We can wait and then look at the form. We can decide anything but it’s up to the selectors to take the final call”.
Further, he talked about the likes of Rishabh Pant’s captaincy, “He was very impressive, especially with the way he picked up from the first two matches where we felt it was not the right way to go as far as bowling changes are concerned. Clearly, he has learned from the mistakes and rectified them. He has kept his cool. It’s not easy being a wicketkeeper and a captain. It’s a very tricky position to be in. He is learning and learning”.
