Fans on Twitter reacted after former Indian skipper Virat Kohli said that despite reaching the Final of the Champions Trophy 2017, the World Cup Semi-final in 2019, the Final in WTC and winning 5 Test Maces in a row he was considered as a failed captain. They weren’t on the same page with him and give some mixed reactions.
“I was considered as a failed captain (smiles),” says Virat Kohli
Under the leadership of Virat Kohli, India was a dominant Test force and finished the year as the No.1 ranked side for 6 consecutive years. Not only did he lead from the front, but he also introduced an all-new fitness culture to the Indian cricket team which has seen the players of the team become fearless and helped the team reach new heights in world cricket.
He is considered as the best Test captain India has ever produced. Since he took charge of the Test team, he set new standards in Indian cricket and insisted on a fearless attitude in the players that have helped the team win both at home as well as overseas. He guided his team to the Final of the World Test Championship in 2021 and won 5 Test Maces in a row
However, not only in the red ball, he made India a staggering force in the white ball as well which saw the team winning both at home as well as overseas. During his tenure, he made India the no.1 in ODIs and T20Is and led them to the Final of the Champions Trophy in 2017 and World Cup Semi-final in 2019.
Recently in the RCB podcast, he opened up about his captaincy. In a very cheeky way he took a dig at the critics of his captaincy, he said: “We reached in Final of CT 2017, Semi in 2019 WC, Final in WTC and 5 Test Maces in a row but I was considered as a failed captain (smiles).”

Who tell him that he was bad captain? https://t.co/79dRNu4yu1

U r one of the best test captains in history but pretty average as far as LOI, and ur club team is concerned. Captaincy is a lot of what team u inherit, that what makes u a very able test captain. Even if Rohit doesnt win a cup here, he is failed too. What is this sympathy??? https://t.co/k30SSjxI54

Because India with the talent & domination in bilaterals were expected to win those. As a capt he cant think of reaching SF as achievement in a odi WC with 4 clear dominant teams
+ no 1 considered virat a failed test captain. Cant believe players are themselves mixing formats now https://t.co/fzeFAOV8ju— naq5 (@ntweet_55) February 25, 2023
The same thing I speak about every now and then. How can a failed captain achieve this? The people are just mad to get over that finish line every single time and that's cheap thinking in cricket😵 people should realise😔 Sorry @imVkohli I can feel you💔👑 https://t.co/tQ5JCeMEno

Also he takes a lot of pride on winning WC and CT as player by contributing in crunch situations…….❤️ https://t.co/88d9pdL6Za

That’s a misconception! The world acknowledges you as one of the best captains cricket has ever produced @imVkohli . 7 years as undisputed captain of all 3 formats and RCB is no mean achievement and not something any present or future Indian captain will be able to emulate ! 👏

Greatest Test captain for sure☑️

Dont think he is considered as failed captain. But at same time he was found short of ideas in pressure situtation. The last push was missing. But his contribution in test matches esp is unparalled . He has given this pace batter system . He made us overseas force to rekon with.

It's not because you won't win it's because you created your own image as failed captain since you took RCB captaincy everyone knows your level of captaincy in limited over
