“We have never seen Virat Kohli like this before,” RP Singh reckons Kohli’s slump in form might be as long as his purple patch

RP Singh is also of the view that Kohli has more of a chance of finding his form back in longer formats of the game

The former Indian fast bowler RP Singh reckons since there was a long period of time where Virat Kohli was in a purple patch with the bat and was consistently scoring runs in all formats of the game in all conditions, his slump in form might be a long one as well.

RP is also of the opinion that there is more of a possibility that Kohli finds his form in the longer formats of the game, rather than T20 cricket.

According to RP Singh, who was speaking as a pundit on India TV, when you are out of form as a batsman, you want to spend as much time out there in the middle as possible. The more time you spend in the middle, the more you give yourself the chance of timing the ball well and finding the batting rhythm.

But, a batsman doesn’t really have the time to play himself into form in T20 cricket because runs are required quickly from team’s point of view and the batsman has to go for his shots and force the play, even when he is not middling the ball.

Virat Kohli had come into the IPL with a few question marks over his form anyway because he was not scoring runs for India as fluently as he used to score in the past and then his performance dipped even further for RCB in the IPL.

Virat Kohli must be wondering about his form himself: RP Singh

In IPL 2022, barring one game which was RCB’s last league game against Gujarat Titans and was a must win game for them, Kohli didn’t seem to be at his fluent best in any of the other 15 games he played.

The former Indian captain has now been rested for the T20I series against South Africa, but will play the last match of the incomplete 5-match test series against England next month.

RP Singh said everyone is wondering about Kohli’s form because nobody has seen Kohli like this before, but Kohli himself would also be wondering what kind of phase he is going through where he is just getting dismissed so easily, while at one point of time he was completely dominating the game.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
