Team India are currently ranked No.2 in the ICC rankings for Test teams. Recently, they defeated Sri Lanka in the Mohali Test by an innings and 222 runs. India have dominated at home and overseas due to which they have dominated the rankings. A number of their players have dominated the Test rankings in recent times in the various categories.
In the article, let’s look at Team India players in each category rankings in Test cricket
1. Batting – Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant
Virat Kohli hasn’t scored a Test ton since November 2019, but he remains one of the batters from India in the top 10 of the ICC rankings. The right-handed batter has kept chipping in with useful half-centuries, making him a vital asset of the national batting lineup.
Rohit Sharma has flourished in Test cricket for India in the last two years and hence has gone up the rankings. Last year, the 34-year-old also scored his maiden Test ton on overseas soil. Rishabh Pant has also impressed with his attacking style of play and has climbed up the rankings briskly.
2. Bowling – Ravi Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah
Although India didn’t win the 2019-21 World Test Championship (WTC), Ravi Ashwin ended as the leading wicket-taker. He has mostly featured for India in the top 10 rankings in Test cricket over the years. The 35-year-old has mostly been lethal for the national team, especially in home conditions.
Jasprit Bumrah made his Test debut in South Africa back in 2018 and he hasn’t looked back since then. During this while, injuries have been roadblocks in his career. But the pacer has been able to stay in the top 10 rankings for Team India in the purest format of the game.
3. All-rounder- Ravindra Jadeja, Ravi Ashwin
Ravindra Jadeja has grown leaps and bounds in Test cricket in the last three years or so. Over the time period, his batting has improved to a large extent and has got runs lower down the order. Hence, the veteran has climbed the rankings for Team India in the top 10 rankings in Test cricket.
Recently, he also became the third Indian with 150 runs and a fifer in the same Test. Ashwin, in the meantime, has dominated the batting rankings as well. Apart from his plethora of wickets, Ashwin also has five Test tons to his name against the West Indies and England.
