India’s batting great Sunil Gavaskar is a huge admirer of Indian cricket. He is currently plying his trade as a commentator and never shies away from giving his bold and honest opinions on the commentary panel.

The veteran constantly keeps track of all the Indian cricketers’ performances across formats. He praises the players who literally perform well whereas he also never hesitates to criticize the players if they underperform.

At times, he had been a very vocal critic of Indian cricket. We have also seen him offering tips and solutions for the players to overcome the challenges in their batting approach.

Sunil Gavaskar showers praise on the Indian youngster Umran Malik

Recently, the veteran reserved the highest respect for Indian youngster, Umran Malik while speaking on SonyLIV ahead of the second ODI fixture between India and Bangladesh at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka.

Sunil Gavaskar highlighted that Umran Malik is the second cricketer after legendary Sachin Tendulkar that he has been the most excited to see representing the Indian national cricket team.

Sachin Tendulkar dominated the Test and ODI format and made the sport popular. He is the only one to have scored 100 centuries in international cricket. Gavaskar added that he is really excited to see Umran Malik play.

Umran Malik has by far represented the national cricket team in four One-Day Internationals and three Twenty20 Internationals. The right-arm pacer who is known for his raw pace has taken five wickets in the 50-over format.

On the other hand, he has taken two wickets in the T20I format. He is currently part of the ongoing three-match ODI series against the Bangladesh cricket team. The right-arm paceman is currently playing the second ODI against the Tigers.

The fast bowler accounted for two dismissals to his name, getting rid of Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mahmudullah.
