“Nice player, Good captain” – Twitter reacts after Aaron Finch retires from all forms of international cricket

Aaron Finch has been one of the vital cogs of Australia’s limited-overs setup for a long time now. He made the headlines today, on February 7 (Tuesday) after he bid adieu to all forms of international cricket.

Aaron Finch etched his name into the record books when he guided his team to a maiden T20 World Cup title in the 2021 edition when the Aussies got the better of New Zealand to win the maiden title.

It is worth mentioning that Aaron Finch was also a member of the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup-winning team with Australia at home. Australia defeated New Zealand to win the fifth ODI World Cup in their history.

Aaron Finch’s contribution to the national cricket team as a batter and captain shall never be forgotten. The 36-year-old scored 5406 runs in 146 ODIs including 17 centuries and 30 fifties to his name.

On the other hand, he has played 103 T20Is in his career wherein he scored 3120 runs at an average of 34.3 including two centuries and 19 fifties to his credit, at a strike rate of 142.5.

Aaron Finch calls it quits from all forms of international cricket

Aaron Finch has played only five Tests in his career wherein he scored 278 runs including two fifties before he was axed from the Test setup. The veteran’s announcement was actually expected after his decision to call it quits from the ODIs last year.

While speaking to the journalists at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Aaron Finch conceded that upon realizing that he won’t be a regular feature for Australia until the next T20 World Cup in 2024, the time has come for him to step down and give the board time to come up with a proper plan and build things in an effective way.

David Warner, who was Aaron Finch’s long-time opening partner took to Instagram and paid a rich tribute to the limited-overs legend. Warner thanked Finch for all the entertainment and joy.
