Most ducks in Border-Gavaskar Trophy

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy has seen some great players grace the game with their presence. These players have made some records that have long been etched in the record books as well as in the memories of fans around the world.

But there have been also some players who have had some unwanted records to their name, which have tarnished their reputation a bit. Here is a look at one such record which is the most number of ducks in Border-Gavaskar Trophy and have a look at players who hold this unwanted record.

1. Ishant Sharma – 12

Ishant Sharma has been the spearhead of the Indian Test bowling attack for a long time now. He has been of great importance for the Indian team especially last time they toured Down Under as they managed to win their first-ever Test series on Australian soil.

However, being a fine bowler, he does not have great stats as a batsman. In 25 Tests against Australia, he just has 179 runs to his name at a pretty less average of 6.88. Adding to this, he has 12 ducks to his name which is the most in the history of Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He would like to get better with this record the next time he holds the bat for India against Australia.

2. Ajit Agarkar – 8

Being a skiddy customer with the ball, Agarkar always had the talent to become a genuine all-rounder for India. No one would forget his brilliant spell against Australia in the second innings of the 2003-04 Adelaide Test that India won.

However, he has had a very poor run against Australia as far as batting is concerned. In the 9 Tests that he has played against the Aussies, Agarkar has only scored 104 runs at a poor average of 7.42. He has 8 ducks to his name which is the second-most in the history of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He was also called the ‘Bombay duck’ for his series of zero scores in a series against Australia.

3. Zaheer Khan – 7

Zaheer Khan has arguably been one of the finest left-arm fast bowlers India have ever produced. He thrived under Sourav Ganguly’s captaincy and always performed at his best against Australia with the ball.

With the bat too, Zaheer Khan was no mug as he has one half-century to his name against the Aussies. However, that is the only good thing about his batting against Australia. He holds a poor record of 7 ducks against the men from Down Under, which is the third-most in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He has scored 296 runs in 19 Tests at an average of 12.33.

4. Nathan Lyon – 6

Nathan Lyon, also known as the GOAT by his Australian teammates, is the finest off-spinner produced by Australia. He has a remarkable number of wickets in Test cricket and aims to reach the 500-wicket mark before he hangs up his boots.

Although he has been a world-class spinner, Lyon has most of the times been a No.11 with the bat for Australia, which clearly shows his ability with the willow. Although he is a good blocker, he has 6 ducks to his name which is the joint-fourth most in Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He has 212 runs to his name in 18 matches against India at a modest average of just 10.60.

5. Harbhajan Singh – 6

Harbhajan Singh burst out on to the scene against Australia in 2001 when he picked up a staggering 32 wickets in just three Tests. He went on to become one of the greatest off-spinner from India, picking up more than 400 Test wickets. He also is the second-highest wicket-taker in Border-Gavaskar Trophy history.

With the bat, he has two Test centuries to his name. However, against Australia, his batting record has not been that great. He has been able to score only 410 runs in 18 Tests at an average of 17.82. Although he has four half-centuries to his name against Aussies, he also has six ducks to go with it, which is the joint-fourth most in Border-Gavaskar Trophy
