The fifth Test match between India and England got cancelled on September 10th, just a few hours before the toss. This was keeping in mind the rising number of COVID cases in the Indian camp. Lancashire Cricket Club’s Old Trafford Stadium was hosting the game. However, after the game was cancelled, Lancashire Cricket’s gesture has won over the Internet. It is now receiving immense praise on social media.

During the Oval Test, a few members of India’s support staff tested positive for COVID. The list also included Head Coach Ravi Shastri. They did not attend the game as they had to self-isolate. A few days later, India’s second physio Yogesh Parmar also contracted the virus. All the members of the Indian Team were tested for COVID and all returned with negative reports. Hence, everything was going as per plan for the fifth game to take place. This was until a few hours before the toss.

However, as per reports, a few Indian players had concerns about taking part in the game. The players wrote a letter to BCCI about the same. Both the boards then sat for a set of discussions. The decision to cancel the Test then came about. This was much to the disappointment of the fans and the experts. All were expecting a cracker final to the series. The Indians will now fly to take part in IPL. The T20 league will start on September 19th in UAE. T20 World Cup will follow after that. T20 World Cup will take place in the UAE and Oman. At the moment, there is no clarity about the fifth encounter.

Lancashire Cricket’s gesture wins the Internet

After the game was called off, Lancashire Cricket donated the surplus food to the local charities. The club said, “@lancscricket has made a number of food donations within the local community following the cancellation of the fifth #ENGvIND Test Match @EmiratesOT.”

“The game was due to run for five days from Friday 10 September to Tuesday 14 September but after the game was cancelled this morning, the Club donated all surplus, pre-prepared food for players, hospitality, and media guests to several local charities.” This gesture has now won over the Internet. Many tweets praising the club authorities for the touching act were in the comment section.
