“IPL Is Strongest League”- Australian Star Usman Khawaja Says There Is No Contest Between IPL & PSL

The Indian Premier League (IPL) started in the year 2008, and currently it is the biggest T20 league on earth. Quite a few cricketing nations launched their own T20 league after seeing the success of the IPL. One of them is Pakistan, who launched the Pakistan Super League, popularly known as PSL. Usman Khawaja recently commented on IPL vs. PSL debate.

The eighth edition of the Pakistan Super League happened in 2022, where the Lahore Qalandars beat the Multan Sultans to win their maiden PSL trophy. Fans would know that the Indian players do not play in the PSL, while the Pakistani stars do not participate in the IPL.

Players from other nations can play in both leagues, and one of the players who has participated in both IPL and PSL, Usman Khawaja recently gave his opinion on the competition between the two leagues. The Australian batter said that there is not a real contest there as IPL is the best league globally.

“IPL is the strongest in the world. That’s hands down. That’s not really a contest there (between IPL and PSL) because at the end of the day they have all the world come to them,” said Khawaja during a chat with media ahead of the Rawalpindi Test match against Pakistan.

Usman Khawaja further highlighted that IPL is the only league in the world, where the Indian cricketers participate, which is why it is a notch above the other leagues.

Usman Khawaja went unsold in the IPL 2022 Auction

Usman Khawaja made his IPL debut for the Rising Pune Supergiants. He played a few matches for the Pune-based franchise before being released.

Although Khawaja has done well in T20 leagues after that, he has never received another IPL contract. He registered himself for the IPL 2022 Auction, but none of the franchises bid for him at the mega auction. It will be interesting to see if the left-handed batter returns to the league as a replacement.
