In a recent interview with the Grade Cricketer, Shane Watson confirmed that Prithvi Shaw would not be playing the remaining two IPL matches for the Delhi Capitals.
Delhi Capitals are in a spot-of-bother from the past few games. Young opening batsman Prithvi Shaw was sidelined due to fever. Shaw last featured in the XI on the 1st of May against the Lucknow Supergiants. He has missed the team’s last three matches.
After the win against Rajasthan Royals, skipper Rishabh Pant stated that the Mumbai-born cricketer could be suffering from Typhoid.
KS Bharat, who replaced Prithvi in the playing XI, has been underwhelming in each game. He has not been able to influence the scoreboard at all. With a string of low scores, Bharat has been the weak link of the DC Line-up over the last matches.
Watson confirmed that Shaw is suffering from an underlying fever for the previous couple of weeks. He stated that Prithvi’s absence is a huge loss to the franchise. “He is an incredibly skillful young batter who takes down the best bowlers in the world”, Watson added.
Watson hopes that Shaw gets fit soon. However, he believes that he could remain sidelined for the minimum of the last two games of the group stages.
DC can’t afford to be beaten despite the absence of Prithvi Shaw
DC currently sits in 5th position, knocking on the door of the playoffs. Securing 12 points in as many matches, DC has had a mediocre season after an impressive mega auction.
Delhi Capitals need to win both of their remaining games to stand a chance of playing the knockout stages. Moreover, Ricky Ponting & Co. would hope that at least one from Royal Challengers Bangalore and Rajasthan Royals lose their respective matches.
The Delhi Capitals play their next match against the Punjab Kings on Monday, the 16th of May. It will be played at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
