Five Players you might not know once played for CSK in the IPL

Chennai Super Kings didn’t have a great IPL season in 2020 but their fans will be hoping that next year things will be different. Even though there isn’t a mega auction, CSK will look to release some players and get some new ones for the upcoming season. Most of the players who come and play in the IPL want to be a part of the CSK team.

Not only because it has won the trophy thrice but also because it backs its players. MS Dhoni has always believed in continuity and hence there is no doubt that he keeps backing players he believes in. Everybody doesn’t get a chance to play for the Chennai Super Kings. So, let’s have a look at five players you might not know who once played for CSK in the IPL.

1. George Bailey

George Bailey who captained Australia in the white-ball formats has been a part of the Chennai Super Kings team for a season. Bailey has played for three franchises and even captained Kings XI Punjab for the majority of his IPL career.

But before that, he played four games for CSK in which he scored a total of 63 runs at an average of 21 and a strike-rate of 95.45. CSK had many overseas options and hence he wouldn’t have got many opportunities in the yellow jersey.

2. Andrew Flintoff

Andrew Flintoff who is one of the finest all-rounders to have played the game was a part of the IPL in 2009. Chennai Super Kings bought him for a huge price in the auction, but he didn’t match the expectations. He played only three games for CSK in which he scored 62 runs.

He picked up only a couple of wickets at an average of 52.5 and an economy rate of 9.55. He was one of the star signings but couldn’t deliver for his team. Flintoff didn’t play for any other team in the IPL.

3. Thisara Perera

After Andre Flintoff, here is another overseas all-rounder who was a part of the CSK franchise. He was with CSK in the 2010 season in which they won the IPL for the first time. Perera has been a good T20 all-rounder, but he didn’t get much game time with men in yellow.

The Sri Lankan all-rounder has played for many franchises in the IPL, but he played only one game for CSK. He didn’t bat in that game and bowled one over for 19 runs. Perera, later on, played under MS Dhoni in the Rising Pune Supergiant team.

4. Jason Holder

The West Indian Test captain – Jason Holder has been a part of the CSK team. He played for CSK in the 2013 season in which they reached the final. He got a few chances with the CSK team as he played a total of 6 games.

He didn’t bat in any of those games and was used more as a bowler. He picked up only two wickets in the six games at an economy rate of 8.40. Holder had a good season with SRH in 2020 as he came in as a replacement for Mitchell Marsh.

5. Nuwan Kulasekara

Nuwan Kulasekara, the Sri Lankan pacer who was known for his swing has also been a part of the Chennai Super Kings team. He played in the 2011 and 2012 seasons for the men in yellow.

He played six games for CSK and performed decently in those games. Furthermore, he picked up five wickets at an economy rate of 7.06 with the best figures of 2/10. Nuwan Jayasekara didn’t play for any other franchise in the IPL after those six games.
