Chasing the mammoth target of over 500 runs, Bangladesh had a staggering start as openers Zakir Hasan and Najmul Hossain Shanto made Indian bowlers look clueless and batted solidly at the top to put the visitors under pressure.
Both the openers batted with full control and went on to smash half-centuries. They stitched 124 runs for the opening partnership before Umesh Yadav provided a breakthrough for his side by removing Najmul Shanto for 67 runs.
However, the pacer will give the credit for his wicket to keeper Rishabh Pant, who took a staggering reflex catch. It was during the 47th over when Umesh Yadav bowled a short of a length from round the wicket around the fifth-sixth stump zone, to which the batter pushed.
He got a thick outside edge that went to the right of the first slip, where Virat Kohli was stationed. It was a regulation catch but Kohli made a mess of it as it popped out of his hand. Pant, however, showed great presence of mind to dive across to his left and snaffle it.
But it wasn’t easy for him as well as he also took the catch on the second attempt. The ball hit the left glove first and then Pant did a superb job to catch it with both hands and send Shanto back into the hut.
