Former Australian cricketers were left amazed by the team’s decision to drop Mitchell Starc from the team for the game against Afghanistan in T20 World Cup 2022. They lashed out at the management for leaving out the premier pacer and said that it was a horrendous decision taken by the management.

Australia drops Mitchell start for the game against Afghanistan

In what was a crucial game for Australia in the context of the semi-final, they dropped match-winner Mitchell Starc from the side and played Kane Richardson in their place of him. Although they won the game but Starc’s absence was quite visible.

After Australia posted a total of 168 runs on the board, they were out on the back foot as Afghanistan batters cleanly strike the ball and kept their side in the hunt. Richardson, who was brought in as a replacement for Starc, in particular, struggled as the batters took him to the cleaners.

Richardson conceded 48 runs in his 4 overs and took one wicket but his expensive spell was one of the main reasons behind Australia being on the back foot. At one stage it seemed that Afghanistan will clinch the game but Marcus Stonis held his nerves well and defended the target to help Australia win and keep their hopes alive.

Australian legends criticise team management’s decision to drop Mitchell Starc

Australia’s decision to drop Mitchell Starc was criticised by many fans and pundits, who lashed out at the management for their call. Australian Legends too were fuming at his decision and expressed their disappointment.

Michael Clarke was the one to begin the proceedings. Speaking on air, he said “Strange one Harsha, strange one. He’s got to be injured. There’s absolutely no way you can leave him out of tonight’s game. If anyone’s going to rip through Afghanistan’s batting it’s Mitchell Starc. Left-arm, if it swings with the new ball and then we’ve seen his yorkers at the death. I don’t get it.”

Mark Waugh also express his disappointment and said: “Aussie team no Mitchell Starc. Is he injured or dropped?”Starc should be playing. He is a aggressive wicket taking bowler who could easily rip through Afghanistan. Richardson more of a holding type bowler.”

Tom Moody also was amazed with the decision and said: “Mitchell Starc dropped or just miss the team bus?”

Adam Gilchrist and Shane Watson, who were also fuming at the team management and expressed their agony while commentating on air.
