India leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal went down the memory lane and talked about a hilarious incident, involving him, retired cricketer Daniel Vettori and former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Virat Kohli. Chahal made his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut for the Mumbai Indians (MI) in 2013, but the franchise released him after one season.
In 2014, Chahal joined RCB and from there on, he didn’t look back. The tweaker went on to pick up over 100 wickets for the Challengers in eight seasons. The 31-year-old said that during his early days, he used to get intimidated by Kohli’s aggressive demeanour.
Chahal used to get scared to the extent that he showed his aggression at the batter. That’s when Vettori went up to him and asked him to celebrate with Kohli after picking up a wicket, Chahal said.
The veteran made the revelations while speaking to Indian off-break bowler Ravi Ashwin on the latter’s YouTube channel.
Yuzvendra Chahal puts forth his opinions
“Then in one match, I said something bad, and Vettori sir came to me and said, ‘This is not good, you have the potential but if you can change this thing… if you want to run (after picking a wicket), you run towards the covers, to Virat, and say whatever you want to – Virat won’t mind,” Chahal said.
After eight seasons, the RCB decided to let him go. Instead, they retained Kohli, Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell and young India fast bowler Mohammed Siraj. Chahal, in the meantime, has registered for the mega auction at a base price of INR 2 crores.
He is one of the 48 players to have set themselves the highest base price in the mega auction, scheduled to take place on February 12 and 13 in Bengaluru. In the interview with Ashwin, Chahal also said that he would be happy with around INR 8 crores and doesn’t expect his price to go through the roof.
Chahal didn’t have the best of outings in the first leg of IPL 2021 in India. Thereafter, he didn’t even find a place in India’s squad for the 2021 T20 World Cup. However, Chahal made a strong comeback in the second leg of the IPL in the United Arab Emirates.
