Saurashtra cricket team player Sheldon Jackson has achieved enormous success in domestic cricket. However, he has never received an opportunity to play for the Indian cricket team at the senior level. The 35-year-old wicket-keeper batter made his first-class debut in 2011, and so far, he has played 79 first-class matches.
Speaking of his numbers in domestic cricket, the right-handed batter has aggregated 5,947 runs at an average of 50.39. His highest score is 186, while he has registered 19 centuries and 31 fifties in his first-class career. Fans should note that he has also taken 57 catches and executed two stumpings from behind the stumps.
In IPL 2022, Jackson played for the Kolkata Knight Riders team. He was not a part of the playing XI regularly, but his glovework was impressive in the matches that he played.
Speaking to Sportskeeda, Jackson opened up on being ignored by the Indian selectors despite performing well in domestic matches. Here’s what the Saurashtra batter had to say:
“There has been no communication but once I asked someone what more I need to do, I was told I am old. They told me that above 30, we are not picking anyone. But ultimately, after a year, they picked someone who was around 32-33. I was vocal is there any law that once you’re above 30, 35 or even 40 you cannot get picked?”
Sheldon Jackson is hopeful of playing for the Indian team one day
During the same interview, Sheldon Jackson mentioned that he keeps himself motivated to put in the hard yards and score runs in domestic cricket to fulfill his dream of playing for the Indian cricket team.
The chances of Jackson making his debut seem low now because he did not have a memorable IPL season, while players like KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan and Rishabh Pant are present in the Indian squads as wicket-keepers. KS Bharat is also waiting in the line at the moment.
