One of the first upsets of the 2022 T20 World Cup was when West Indies got knocked out of the tournament after the first round. The Caribbean side was the only team that has won two T20 World Cups so far. Hence, their early exit came as a bit of a shocker. As an after-effect, the Head Coach of the side – Phil Simmons, has resigned from his position. On that note, here, we take a look at how Twitter reacted as Phil Simmons resigns as Head Coach of West Indies after the early exit in the 2022 T20 World Cup.
A tough way forward for the West Indian cricket
In the past few months, West Indies has been struggling in all three formats of the game. However, there was hope from them in the T20 format. To their advantage, they had some fine players in the form of Nicholas Pooran, Rovman Powell, Odean Smith and Obed McCoy. However, all of the talents could not be utilized in the correct manner. Eventually, the team had to be eliminated from a group that consisted of lesser established cricketing nations like Zimbabwe, Ireland and Scotland.
Right now, though, the focus will be on the future. Players such as Nicholas Pooran will have to take more responsibility. The board will also want to use the services of Shimron Hetmyer, Sunil Narine and Andre Russell to take the team forward.
Phil Simmons resigns as the Head Coach of West Indies
It was the second stint for Phil Simmons as the Head Coach of West Indies. He has found success with the team. However, in his absence, West Indies could find it hard. Simmons’ last assignment will be the two-match Test series against Australia that will start in a few weeks. Here are some Twitter reactions after his resignation:

I don’t believe Phil Simmons should be blamed for West Indies failure at the 2022 T20 World Cup tournament. Having said that I believe the previous coach was doing well and the Board erred when it removed him to make way for Phil.

What have been the achievements of this West Indies Executive so far? What has been President Skerritt legacy thus far? The return of Phil Simmons and the band of merry men?

WI – fans talking about
* Phil retirement
* Remove Pooran from captaincy
* Who will be the next coach
* Rest of the coaching staff Need to go
* Blaming the players / Cricket board .
* Talking about pollard and Hetmyer— reenel joseph🇬🇩🇹🇹 (@joseph_reenel) October 25, 2022
Respect Phil Simmons for taking the responsibility & resigning.
However, there are too many deluded & ignorant views on this thread.
West Indies cricket is going though a re-building T20 phase & changing the coach, will not magically make the team champions as in 2012 & 2016 https://t.co/BYyUtNQ3AF
