Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise made the headlines recently after the latest data of teams that spent most money on the players’ salaries went viral on the social media portals.
The data showed that RCB spent INR 910.5 crore on players, more than any other team in the history of the Indian Premier League. However, they were unable to win any title since the inception of the competition.
RCB franchise recruited the services of Faf du Plessis at the IPL 2022 mega auction. CSK released the South African international in auction but RCB won the bidding war by signing Faf for Rs 7 crore.
RCB have long been criticized for their inability to win a title since the inaugural season. However, they managed to make it to the finals of the competition on three occasions but failed to cross the finishing line all the time.
AB de Villiers says if RCB can win one IPL then they will win two or three quickly
RCB made it to their first-ever IPL final in the year 2009 but surrendered at the hands of Deccan Chargers (now defunct franchise) in the thrilling encounter. Just a season later, RCB booked their place in the IPL 2011 final.
However, they lost to MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings in the final. Some seasons later, everything went well for RCB as Virat Kohli was the captain of the franchise in that season.
Under his captaincy, RCB not only performed well but also saw Kohli dominating the run-charts as he scored over 900 runs. Nonetheless, RCB lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2016 final.
Meanwhile, former RCB player AB de Villiers added that if RCB manage to win one IPL title, then they will go on to win two or three titles pretty quickly. RCB’s performance in the last season was commendable.
They finished fourth on IPL 2022 points table and knocked out Lucknow Super Giants in the Eliminator but lost to Rajasthan Royals in the second qualifier.
