Asia Cup 2022: Why the tournament doesn’t have the semi-finals?

As the Asia Cup 2022 is underway, many would be wondering about which format does the tournament follow and why aren’t in its semi-finals?

While most of the tournaments across the globe follow the format of the semi-finals, the Asia cup has Super 4. The tournament is played between six teams, divided into two groups. The top two teams from both groups will qualify for the Super 4 stage.

In the Super 4 stage, all four teams will face each other once and a separate points table will be formed. Two teams with max points will then play the final.

With the tournament having only 6 teams, the Super 4 format is best to follow as it provides the opportunity for almost all the teams to play against each other and prove their prowess. So far the tournament has been successful with this format and it is expected that this format will continue to follow in the upcoming years as well.

Asia Cup 2022: Predicting Super 4s for the ongoing tournament

With two wins out of their two matches, Afghanistan and India have already qualified for the Super 4s stage. With two spots remaining, Pakistan, Hong Kong, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh would be fighting neck to neck to claim their place.

Sri Lanka is all set to take on Bangladesh on Thursday (1st September), one among them will claim the place in Super 4 today. However, considering the recent form and head-to-head record, it’s likely that the Dasun Shanaka-led side will emerge victorious.

On the other hand, Pakistan is slated to face Hong Kong in the Group A clash and with the amount of firepower they have on their side, the Babar Azam-led side is expected to thump Hong Kong by a big margin to enter the Super 4s stage.

If Pakistan manages to qualify for the Super 4s, then it is likely that they can face India twice. At first, they are expected to play on Sunday (4th September) and if both teams play to their potential, it is expected that they will clash in the final as well.
