“Feels they will lose from Afghanistan too,” Twitterati takes a jibe at the Indian team after they get knocked out of the Asia Cup 2022

Afghanistan’s loss to Pakistan eliminated India out of the tournament

Pakistan’s thrilling win over Afghanistan on Wednesday (7th September) officially knocked Indian Cricket Team out of the ongoing Asia Cup 2022. The Babar Azam-led side on the other hand with the 1-wicket win booked their berth in the final to play Sri Lanka on Sunday (11th September).

There’s no doubt that Indian fans had all the hopes on Afghanistan and the Mohammad Nabi-led side to a great extent repaid the faith. It almost seemed that they would beat Pakistan and India will stay alive but in the end, it was only a matter of two balls that turned the game in Men in Green’s favour.

After Afghanistan posted a total of 129 runs on the board, they started off well with the ball and kept taking wickets at regular intervals to leave Pakistan tottering at 45/3. However, after that Shadab Khan (36) and Iftikhar Ahmed (30) steadied the innings and titled the game to their side.

The game changed yet again after that as Pakistan suffered a massive collapse and was left tottering at 118/9 with all the main batters in the hut. The match went down to the last over with the Babar-led side needing 11 runs off six balls.

Many backed Afghanistan to claim the game, especially with the bowling performance they displayed but Naseem Shah shattered the hopes of both Indian as well as Afghanistan fans. The pacer smashed two sixes on two consecutive balls and won the game for his side with 1 wicket in hand.

Fans troll the Indian team for their poor performance in the Asia Cup 2022

After having a dominating group stage, India failed to set the stage on fire in the Super 4s. The Rohit Sharma-led side first suffered a 5-wicket loss to India and then pressure got the better of them as were at the receiving end of a 6-wicket thumping at the hands of Sri Lanka.

Their two losses in the Super 4s stage almost dented their chances of playing the final. They were dependent on Afghanistan to beat Pakistan but it didn’t happen which saw them getting eliminated.

Fans on Twitter took a dig at the Indian team for their poor performances, saying that they might even lose to Afghanistan in a dead rubber, which will be played on Thursday (8th September)
