“And then will be a surprise package for the 2024 T20 World Cup”, Twitter reacts as most of the Indian senior cricketers will focus on ODI and Tests in 2023

The Indian national cricket team have come under fire recently for their inability to end the ICC title drought. They had enough resources in their arsenal but failed to make use of it in the clutch moments.

As a result, the Men in Blue failed to come out on top against England in the second semi-final of the ICC Men’s Twenty20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. Following India’s exit from the tournament, the BCCI had to take several steps.

The richest cricket body sacked the Chetan Sharma-led entire selection committee in the wake of the T20 World Cup fiasco. Besides that, there were possible talks of split captaincy for the betterment of Indian cricket.

Reports were rife that the BCCI is considering a separate captain for Tests and the other captain for Tests and ODIs. As things stand, Rohit Sharma is the captain of the Indian cricket team across all three formats.

However, there could be a possibility of seeing two captains for India in the future. As per the reports, Hardik Pandya will lead the Indian cricket team in the T20I set-up whereas Rohit Sharma will lead the team in Tests and ODIs.

Meanwhile, according to a report by PTI, most of the Indian senior cricketers will concentrate on One Day Internationals and Test format in the next calendar year.

Even if there are many T20Is scheduled for the next year, the senior cricketers will simply stick to the ODI and Tests. There is ICC ODI World Cup 2023 scheduled next year and the board wants senior players including Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli to focus on the 50-over format.

Currently, Indian players are in New Zealand for a white-ball assignment wherein India already won the T20I series by 1-0 and the ODI series is still going on. New Zealand won the first ODI whereas the second game was washed out due to rain.
