“I knew that beforehand. Most of the teams agreed to give certain players”, Ravichandran Ashwin discloses details about Rajasthan Royals’ unsuccessful trade attempts

Rajasthan Royals were the inaugural champions of the cash-rich Indian Premier League. They made it all the way to the finals and defeated Chennai Super Kings to win their first title.

However, they were unable to implement the same winning template in the subsequent seasons. They turned from bad to worse as the seasons progressed and failed to qualify for the playoffs more often than not.

Nonetheless, things started to change when Sanju Samson took charge as captain. The transition didn’t happen overnight as it took them time to overcome their fears and challenges that came along their way.

Rajasthan Royals made it all the way to the finals of the IPL 2022 season but lost to Gujarat Titans in the final. Meanwhile, there were reports that the RR franchise was going to release Ravichandran Ashwin ahead of the IPL 2023 auction.

However, RR retained the veteran off-spinner ahead of the auction. Meanwhile, the off-spinner opened up on the details about the franchise’s unsuccessful trade attempts. He added that how many teams withdrew trade deals with the franchise at the very last minute in the build-up to the IPL 2023 mini auction.

The Rajasthan Royals’ off-spinner further added that the teams were not that interested to trade the players in the first place just because it would make the opposition look intimidating.

Furthermore, the off-spinner added that the Rajasthan Royals franchise closed on a few deals. Needless to say, the other franchises simply rejected the offers in the first place despite originally saying ‘yes’ to them before.
