“Quality for cricket will decrease”, Twitter reacts after Tim Southee said more players will give up the national contract for T20 leagues in future

Cricket is the most-watched sport in India and the second-most-watched sport in the globe, without any second thoughts. The bat-ball game was being played in the middle of the 16th century.

However, its true origin is not known yet and one thing is pretty clear now. The sport is not the same as before because there have been several improvisations that took shape to attract the fans across the world.

The sport had the conventional Test format followed by the sixty-over format (One-Day Internationals). However, as the years progressed, the ODI format was trimmed by 10 overs and as a result, we are witnessing the 50-over format.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) thought that the Twenty20 format can be played in the World Cup and the idea turned out to be a masterstroke as it became the most successful and most-watched format in the world.

Tim Southee reckons several players will give up the national contract for T20 leagues in future

Meanwhile, New Zealand paceman Tim Southee reckons that several players will totally lose interest in playing for the national cricket team to switch their focus towards T20 leagues in the future.

It is no doubt that the T20 leagues have been the centre of attention these days. The franchises also spend plenty of money to buy the players. The salary in T20 leagues is very high compared to the wages in international cricket.

This is precisely the reason why some of the players have often shown a great deal of interest in playing the T20 leagues. Among the several T20 leagues which is being played, IPL is the most-watched T20 league in the world.

IPL kick-started in the year 2008 and since then, it has successfully completed 15 editions since its entry. The cash-rich IPL is gearing up for the sixteenth edition and the upcoming mini-auction will be held on December 23 in Kochi.
