Varun Chakravarthy pulled off an incredible showdown for KKR tonight as the Knights ran roughshod over third-placed RCB. The bowlers of Kolkata were absolutely captivating as all of them came together to dismantle the Challengers for a paltry 92.
Both KKR and RCB resumed their campaign tonight at Abu Dhabi and Virat started the day by opting to bat first after winning the toss. There were a few changes to both sides with debutant Venkatesh Iyer and Lockie Ferguson making way to the starting eleven.
For RCB it was Srikar Bharat coming in to bolster their top-order while Wanindu Hasaranga also made his IPL debut but under forgettable circumstances.
The carnage sparked by Varun Chakravarthy
However, the man who cast a spell of magic over every spectator who was watching the game turned out to be Kolkata’s mystery spinner who will also be a part of the upcoming T20 World Cup, Varun Chakravarthy.
Morgan opted to start the game with him and he pulled off an impressive first over to clarify his intentions. When he was brought back to the attack in the middle-overs, he shook the RCB batting to its very core as he claimed the big wickets of Glenn Maxwell with a magical googly followed by a familiar screamer to scalp Hasaranga.
The following over saw him picking up Sachin Baby as the batsman attempted a desperate swing of the bat with absolutely zero ideas about what was he up against. Later in that over, it was an extended arm of a tumbling CV Varun that also effected the dismissal of Kyle Jamieson at the non-striker’s end.
The entire Kolkata contingency was left mesmerized with the awe-inspiring figures of Varun who chronicled fascinating numbers of 4-0-13-3. Not only was it the purple contingency that couldn’t get their eyes of this aspiring spinner but even the Indian skipper, Virat became a fan of his.
This is what Virat had to say about Varun’s magical bowling
The skipper said a beautiful message for the man of the match as he was heard quoting, “I was saying in the dug-out that Varun Chakravarthy’s form is very good from India’s point of view in the WC and future”.
Not all cricketers are fortunate enough to receive praises from the Indian captain. Harpreet Brar caught the eye of the Indian captain before the fray came to an abrupt halt. It was CV Varun whose mesmerizing bowling paved the path for Kolkata’s dominant victory against the Challengers.
