Aakash Chopra Picks The Players Who Might Be Retained By CSK Ahead Of IPL 2022 Auction

Chennai Super Kings have displayed good form in IPL 2021. However, the team might have to go for a fresh change from IPL 2022. In this article, we tell you Aakash Chopra’s picks as to who might be retained by CSK ahead of IPL 2022 Auction to be held next year.

CSK will undergo a transition in the next auctions

When CSK picked its squad in 2018, many felt that the average age was too high. However, the team silenced the critics by going on to win the trophy. That said, the franchise will have to undergo a transition from next season.

A few players are not in form and need to be replaced. Players such as MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina and Imran Tahir are on the wrong side of the cricketing age. Hence, they may not play for three more years. Therefore, CSK must be wise while deciding on the retentions. Although there is no official confirmation, as per a few reports, BCCI is set to sanction two retentions plus two RTM cards.

While speaking on his Youtube channel, Aakash Chopra predicted his picks for CSK before IPL 2022 auction. He said that even if MS Dhoni will be part of the tournament for one more year, CSK is likely to retain him. Regarding the second retention, he said, “The second retention, unless Jaddu says he wants to go, he would know by then if a Gujarat team is there and he wants to go there and become the captain. If that happens then it is different, else Jaddu will be the second retention.”

The former Indian opener picked Deepak Chahar as the player on whom one of the RTM cards will be used. He said that the other RTM card could be used on one of Moeen Ali, Dwayne Bravo, Faf du Plessis, and Sam Curran. There are also chances that Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shardul Thakur will be part of this list. IPL 2022 will also include two new teams. As per reports, IPL 2022 mega auction will happen in January 2022.
