6 Australian players to get dismissed on 99 against India in Tests

India and Australia will clash with each other in four-match Test series from 9th February.

Australian batters have always stepped up whenever there’s a big stage. They have produced some magnificent efforts and have played some staggering brands of cricket as well. But when it has come against India, it’s fair to say that they have struggled as well. The competition between bat and ball when India faces Australia is something one craves for. The action between them will resume once again as they will lock horns in the four-match series.

6 Australian players to get dismissed on 99 against India in Tests 

The first game between India and Australia will be played on February 9th in Nagpur followed by the second Test to be played on 17th February in Delhi. The third game between India and Australia is slated to take place on 1st March in Dharamshala whereas the last game will be played on 9th March in Ahmedabad.The fierce face-off will yet again be on the cards. As the first Test between India and Australia is just a couple of days away now, we take a look at the 6 Australian players to get dismissed on 99 against India in Tests.

WA Brown – 1948

Bill Brown was the first Australian batter who was dismissed for 99 in Tests against India. He achieved the unwanted feat to his name during the Melbourne Test in 1948. He batted for 216 runs before he was run out just a run away from his ton. He smashed 8 fours in his innings as well.

Ian Chappell – 1969 

Ian Chappell was also among the Australian players to get dismissed on 99 against India in Tests. The unwanted feat came in the Eden Gardens Test of 1969 when he was removed by Bishan Bedi, who bowled staggering well in that innings and took 7 wickets. Chappell smashed 16 fours in his innings as well.

Matthew Hayden – 2003 

Former Australian opener Mathew Hayden, who played some staggering innings throughout his career, is also among the batters to get dismissed on 99 against India in Tests. It was during the Brisbane Test in 2003 when Hayden batted with a strike rate of over 100. As he was about to reach his ton, Harbhajan Singh removed him. He scored 10 fours and 2 sixes in his innings as well.

Simon Katich – 2004 

Another Australian player to get dismissed on 99 against India in Tests is Simon Katich. He played staggering well in his innings but lost his concentration in the end as he was trapped in Lbw by Murli Karthik during the Nagpur Test of the 2004 series. He batted for 157 balls and also smashed 14 boundaries in his innings.

Mitchell Starc – 2013 

Australian pacer Mitchell Starc once produced an inning of high quality against India in Mohali during the 2013 Test series. Batting down the order, he smashed runs for fun and made Indian bowlers toil hard. He missed out on a well-deserved ton as he was dismissed on 99. He batted for 144 innings and smashed 14 fours during his innings.

Shaun Marsh – 2014 

Shaun Marsh is the 6th Australian player to get dismissed on 99 against India in Tests. The southpaw achieved the unwanted feat to his name when he was run out by Virat Kohli just a run shy away from his ton during MCG Test in 2014. He batted for 215 balls and smashed 11 fours and 2 sixes in his innings.
