5 Delhi Cricketers never played for Delhi Capitals in IPL

The Delhi Capitals originally called as the Delhi Daredevils have been one of the most active franchises of the Indian Premier League in terms of changing and fiddling around with their team combinations. And, many players who are the now the most prominent faces of their franchises like David Warner and AB de Villiers were once a part of the franchise’s player pool. But, there’s a group of players who have never played for the Delhi based team. And, here’s a look at 5 such names who have never been a part of the Delhi Capitals roaster in spite of having been a Delhi player.

1. Virat Kohli

One of the few cricketers who have never played for any other franchise than the one that they started their IPL career with, Virat Kohli is a player who has never left his team, the Royal Challengers Bangalore for any other franchise, even for his home town’s franchise, the Delhi Capitals.

After having a dismal start to his run in the tournament, Virat Kohli’s numbers have gone nowhere but up. The kind of performances that he has given while with the team, has made him the face of the franchise. And, unless they are forced to do so, the people at the Royal Challengers Bangalore would not be willing to let go off their captain any time soon.

2. Nitish Rana

One of the finds of the Indian Premier League, Nitish Rana is another Delhi based cricket player who has never been a part of the Delhi Capitals or their erstwhile franchise, the Delhi Daredevils. Rana, who is an upper-middle order batsman for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the year 2016.

Since then his performances have fetched him enough of the confidence of the team’s management that he has never been let go off by the team. He continues to be a vital cog of the team’s setup and has come in handy for them with the bat on many important occasions and they would not want to part ways with him till the time he is doing well for the team.

3. Aakash Chopra

Many may not know this, but before moving into the commentary box and making a name for himself and an identity as a commentator that stands apart, Aakash Chopra was a part of the Indian Premier League as a player.

In his short-lived run in the tournament, which lasted for 2 seasons, the ex-India cricket player who was brought up in Delhi and played cricket for its team at the domestic level, never got a chance to represent the franchise based out of Delhi in IPL. He played his first season with the Kolkata Knight Riders and then moved on to playing for the Rajasthan Royals in the following season before calling it a day on his international career.

4. Parwinder Awana

One of the stalwarts of the Indian domestic cricketing circles, the one who was so close yet so far to be an Indian national cricket player, Parwinder Awana is the 4th addition on this list of players who in spite of having played for Delhi in domestic cricket have never played for the Delhi based franchise in IPL.

During his IPL career, he was a mainstay of the Kings XI Punjab squad, as he stayed with the franchise since his debut to the retirement. He started off his run in the tournament in the year 2012, where he played for the Kings XI Punjab and his bowling impressed the top brass of the franchise so much that they decided never to let him leave the team until he retired.

5. Dhruv Shorey

The 28-year-old batsman from Delhi in the domestic cricket circuit, Dhruv Shorey has not yet played for the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League. He was played his first IPL match for the Chennai Super Kings in the year 2018, but his run in the tournament has not been that great.

He has been given a chance to play in just 2 matches so far and his performances have not been that great. But the kind of player he has been and has performed at the domestic level, he is expected to be in high demand in the IPL auction this season and the Delhi Capitals might very well bid on him given the fact that they have been known to invest in younger talents over the years.
