4 players with most ODI hundreds for Australia

Australia have dominated world cricket for quite a while and especially in one-day cricket as they are the side who have won five world-cups, the most by any team in ODI history. One of the main reasons for this is that Australia has always produced world-class batsmen who have scored consistently and help them post mammoth totals. Piling up one century after another, they have been able to lead by example with the bat and let their bat do the talking. Here are the list of 4 players who have scored the most ODI hundreds for Australia.

1. Ricky Ponting- 29

Ricky Ponting is arguably the greatest white-ball batsman Australia have produced and his numbers speak volumes about his achievement both as a captain and as a batsman. Leading Australia to two ODI World Cup wins, Ponting has also lead by example with the bat in hand.

He has the highest number of centuries for Australia with 29 to his name in 374 ODIs. Adding to that he has also scored a mammoth 13,589 runs, also the most by any Australian batsman in ODI history. He will surely go down as one of the greatest ever to play the game of cricket as his records are extremely difficult to get past.

2. David Warner – 18

David Warner is surely one of the modern-day greats of the white-ball game and the way he has been consistent for Australia and just taken his game to the next level has helped his team a lot. In 128 ODIs that he has played so far for Australia, he has scored 18 centuries which is the joint-second-most for Australia in ODI cricket. He also has 5455 runs to his name at an impressive average of 45.45.

He has been extremely crucial for Australia as his fast starts and domination over the opposition have helped them win games of cricket more often than not. If he keeps on going at this pace, he can surely overhaul Ricky Ponting’s record of 29 ODI hundreds.

3. Steve Waugh – 18

Steve Waugh has been one of the most influential figures behind Australia’s rise to dominance in ODI cricket. He instilled the faith and belief in the Australian team that they could win against any opposition and dominate world cricket. Leading Australia to the 1999 World Cup Triumph, Waugh also has 18 hundreds to his name for Australia and has scored 8500 runs in 244 ODIs for them.

He used to play gritty knocks in tough situations to bail out Australia and help them get the better of their opposition. He will also go down as one of Australia’s all-time greats.

4. Aaron Finch -17

Alongside David Warner, Aaron Finch has formed one of the most formidable opening partnerships for Australia in ODIs, Captaining the current Australian ODI side, Finch has been doing a fine job and has scored 17 hundreds for Australia which is the third highest in their ODI history. Adding to this, he also has scored 5157 runs in 132 ODIs and continues to pile on runs in ODI cricket for Australia.

Both him and Warner will continue to be a crucial part of Australia’s ODI team in the near future too. With another hundred, he can go level with Warner and Waugh as Australia’s second-highest ODI century-maker and like Warner can also go on to overtake Ricky Ponting’s record of 29 ODI centuries. Along with the captaincy, he has performed well in phases for team Australia.
