“My Name Was Last”- Jaydev Unadkat Says Watching IPL Auction 2022 Was Tricky For Him

Jaydev Unadkat is all set to play his first IPL season for the Mumbai Indians this year. The left-arm pace bowler played his debut season for the Kolkata Knight Riders before moving to the Delhi Capitals, the Royal Challengers Bangalore, the Rising Pune Supergiant and the Rajasthan Royals.

Unadkat had a dream season with the Rising Pune Supergiant. He played a vital role in the team’s journey to the IPL 2017 Final and narrowly missed out on the Purple Cap award that season. After that year, the Rajasthan Royals signed him for an enormous sum at the IPL 2018 Mega Auction.

However, Jaydev Unadkat could not perform equally well for his new IPL team Rajasthan Royals. RR released him and re-signed him for a cheaper price multiple times before finally giving up on him ahead of IPL 2022.

This year, the Royals have the likes of Trent Boult, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Prasidh Krishna, Anunay Singh and Navdeep Saini in their pace attack. Boult and Coulter-Nile previously played for the Mumbai Indians together. MI is now the home of Unadkat.

I’m pretty happy that I was picked by the Mumbai Indians: Jaydev Unadkat

Jaydev Unadkat expressed his happiness over the fact that he was signed by the Mumbai Indians at the IPL 2022 Mega Auction. The left-arm pacer will share the dressing room with the likes of Shane Bond, Zaheer Khan and Jasprit Bumrah now. Commenting on his new team ahead of IPL 2022, Unadkat said in a video shared by MI:

“I am really excited for this season…to join this team that has ruled the IPL over the years. When it started, it was nervy because my name was last in the fast bowler’s lot. So, it was tricky, but I’m pretty happy that I was picked by the Mumbai Indians.”

MI will start their IPL 2022 campaign against the Delhi Capitals on Sunday. It will be interesting to see if Unadkat gets a place in the playing XI.
