3 Bowlers who have been ruled out from the middle of IPL 2023 due to injury

Even before the start of this year's IPL, many marquee players like Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, and Jonny Bairstow were ruled out due to injury.

The IPL is the most famous and prestigious T20 league in the world. Generally, the IPL is a long tournament in nature, and the current IPL 2023 is scheduled for well over 2 months. So it is common that injury woes will be a major concern for the franchises. One has to take extra care of himself if he is a bowler because they are generally injury-prone.

Even before the start of this year’s IPL, many marquee players like Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, and Jonny Bairstow were ruled out due to injury. In this article, we will have a glimpse at three bowlers who initially took part in the IPL 2023 but were later ruled out due to sustaining an injury.

1) Reece Topley:

Royal Challengers Bangalore bought 29-year-old English-lanky pacer Reece Topley for INR 1.90 crore with the aim of strengthening their pace attack. Topley is a breakout star for England in white-ball cricket; however, he has a notorious past of dealing with injuries, as he has played just 22 ODIs since his debut in 2015. At one point, he even considered retiring from international cricket due to  stress fracture. This year’s IPL is also no different for him, as he was ruled out of the 2023 IPL after playing just one game against the Mumbai Indians due to a knee injury. though he had a wonderful game against MI, and he even picked up the crucial wicket of Cameron Green.

2) Washington Sundar:

Sunrisers Hyderabad retained star all-rounder Washington Sundar for a whopping INR 8.75 crore this year. Much like Topley, Sundar has a bad history with injuries, which have frequently hampered his international career. Sundar played seven matches for SRH in the IPL 2023, where he managed to score 60 runs with a poor strike rate of 100 while mostly batting in the lower middle order. The bowling all-rounder also picked up 3 wickets in the process, notably all in one match against the Delhi Capitals. Sundar was ruled out of the remainder of the IPL due to a hamstring injury; later, 28-year-old Jagadeesha Suchit replaced him in the SRH squad.

3) Jofra Archer:

It seems that the Mumbai Indians owners always had immense faith in Jofra Archer’s ability, as they bought him last year for INR 8 crores even after knowing the Pacer would miss the 2022 season due to injury. This year he joined the Mumbai camp, but he completely failed to convert his skills into numbers for the Mumbai Indians. The 28-year-old pacer from Barbados had a forgettable outing this year. He picked up just two wickets in five matches this season. At the same time, he was quite expensive with the ball. He was recently ruled out of the ongoing IPL due to an injury, but the nature of the injury is still unknown. Star all-rounder Chris Jordan has replaced him.
