3 Australians who have picked more than 400 wickets in Test cricket

Australia have always been a nation that has produced quality bowlers since the inception of the sport. Even though when the batting unit ran through a collapse, bowlers delivered the goods to save the team.

This is precisely the reason why Australia have been the most successful team in international cricket for several years. On the other hand, the majority of Australian bowlers have made a name for themselves in Test cricket.

Now, in this article, we will take a look at the three bowlers who have taken more than 400 wickets in the longest format of the game.

1. Shane Warne

Legendary Shane Warne was one of the integral parts of Australian cricket history. The former Australian leg-spinner is the leading wicket-taker for the national cricket team in the longest format of the game.

The late spinner has played 145 Tests in his career, wherein he bagged as many as 708 wickets to his name at an average of 25.41 including 37 five-wicket-hauls and ten 10-wicket-hauls.

2. Glenn McGrath

Glenn McGrath is second on the list in terms of the most wickets taken by an Australian in Test cricket. In fact, he is also the most successful fast bowler for Australia in red-ball cricket. Having played 124 Tests, he took 563 wickets at an average of 21.64 including 29 fifers and 3 ten-wicket-hauls.

He was literally a nightmare to the opposition bowlers where he ruffled the batters with his line and length. He was not the fastest bowler during his heydays but he was able to rip through the defence of the opposition with world-class bowling performances.

3. Nathan Lyon

Nathan Lyon is a regular feature in Australia’s Test set-up. The veteran right-arm off-spinner is third on the list in terms of the most wickets taken in the longest format of the game.

Nathan Lyon has played 115 Tests in his career wherein he accounted for 460 dismissals at an average of 31.65. On the other hand, he has bagged 21 fifers and 3 ten-wicket-hauls to his name.
