“You don’t want to put any wildcard entries,” Aakash Chopra not surprised with Sanju Samson not making into T20 World Cup 2022 squad

Sanju Samson was not named even in the squad for Australia and South Africa series

Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra said that he was not surprised by Sanju Samson’s omission from the squad for the T20 World Cup 2022. The cricketer-turned-commentator said that the keeper batter was not in the race so he had no chance.

“If someone was not part of this race, he had no chance of coming into this team.” Aakash Chopra on Sanju Samson

Before the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup, 2022 was announced, there were many speculations regarding who will be the 15 players who will make cut into the squad for the T20 World Cup 2022.

But one name that was highly expected to be there in the squad was Sanju Samson. Even a few reports suggested that the keeper batter is likely to be selected in the team for the World Cup.

As it turned around, Samson was not even named in the standby players and squad for Australia and the T20I series. His omission from the squad took the internet by storm as many fans and pundits lashed out at selectors for not naming the right-hander in the side.

But Aakash Chopra feels that Samson was not even in a race to get selected which isn’t surprising at all. Speaking in a video posted on his YouTube channel, he said:

“If someone was not part of this race, he had no chance of coming into this team. So I am not surprised that Sanju is not there here. You shouldn’t be surprised either even if you are slightly hurt. This is how the selection is generally done. You don’t want to put any wildcard entries.”

“It’s very shocking Sanju Samson is not in any India’s squad, not in T20 world cup squad and not even for Australia and South Africa series.”

Aakash Chopra lauds selectors for sticking with the same team that featured in the Asia Cup 2022

The Indian squad for the T20 World Cup 2022 is pretty similar to what they played in Asia Cup. The only change in the squad if that injured Ravindra Jadeja misses and Jasprit Bumrah along with Harshal Patel are back in the side after recovering from injuries.

Chopra said that it was sensible from the selectors to stick with the same team and fans should also realise this thing. He said:

“The batting lineup that was chosen for the Asia Cup, there are no injury concerns, so you have picked the same team for the World Cup – makes absolute sense. Predictability makes the selection better. If outsiders get that realization, it’s not a bad thing.”

India will now play Australia and South Africa in the three-match T20I series each before heading to Australia for the T20 World Cup 2022.
