Watch: Ravichandran Ashwin engage in verbal battle with Eoin Morgan after he got out

KKR secured a comfortable victory against DC

Things took a heated turn in the afternoon encounter between Kolkata and Delhi Capitals when Morgan and Ashwin got involved in an unwanted altercation.

The story of the match

Kolkata pulled off a decent bowling display to contain Delhi Capitals within just 127 runs on a difficult Sharjah pitch. Despite starting the game on a decent note, Delhi lost steam in the middle, with the KKR spinners keeping things tight.

As Delhi wobbled at 92 for 6, Ashwin and Pant stitched a decent partnership to take Delhi to a fighting total. With the scorecard reading 120 for 6 from 19 overs, the Kiwi fast bowler, Tim Southee came back to the attack for the final over.

The war of words between Ashwin and Morgan

On the very first delivery of the over, Southee claimed Ashwin with a slow and short delivery as the leg-spinner whacked it straight into the arms of Nitish Rana in the deep.

However, what followed wasn’t really an exemplary spectacle for cricketers, as both Ashwin and Morgan went at each other. Southee started the battle after throwing a word at Ashwin, with the Indian spinner running across the face of the pitch.

Despite Southee cutting things short, Morgan was hyped up about the exchange and confronted Ash. It needed an intervention from Karthik and Pant to cool down affairs.

However, the drama wasn’t really over, as one would put it in the way that Ashwin was awarded poetic justice when he claimed Morgan for a duck. He screamed at the face of the English skipper and exploded in an extraordinary, aggressive celebration that the Indians loved.

With all said and done, Kolkata managed to have the last laugh as Nitish Rana steered them to the finishing line with a couple of bumps in between. Narine played a fiery 21 from 10 balls to ease out the pressure and despite Delhi closing down, the gap was overwhelming.
