“Virat Kohli told me my fitness was not good, I don’t eat biryani anymore,” Sarfaraz Khan recalls his RCB days

Sarfaraz Khan has been the leading run scorer in Ranji trophy cricket in the last couple of seasons

Sarfaraz Khan, the right-handed middle-order batsman from Mumbai who has scored heaps of runs in the Ranji trophy in the last couple of seasons, has revealed that when he was playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in IPL a few years back, Virat Kohli had conveyed to him that his fitness was not up to the mark and since that time, he has been very conscious about his fitness.

Sarfaraz Khan played for RCB from 2015 to 2018 and he played some very impressive cameos whenever he got his opportunity to bat, but because of the lack of consistency and fitness, he was released by the franchise and was then bought by Punjab Kings.

Sarfaraz’s two-year stint at Punjab Kings was not that impressive and after being released by them, Sarfaraz now plays for his third IPL team Delhi Capitals.

Sarfaraz might have struggled with consistency in the IPL, but when it comes to Ranji trophy cricket, he is probably the most consistent middle-order batsman in the whole country and because of the number of hundreds he has scored in domestic cricket in the last couple of seasons, he is now in the frame for selection in India’s test team.

I didn’t know a lot about diet plans in the past: Sarfaraz Khan

Talking about his fitness in a recent interview with Indian Express, Sarfaraz Khan said when he was playing at the junior level, he didn’t have a lot of information about the diet plans of the athletes and he didn’t know how the athletes were supposed to look after their bodies. He used to have non-vegetarian food like biryani almost on a daily basis back in the day.

But now, he follows a diet plan and it’s only on the weekend sometimes that he eats non-vegetarian food. Sarfaraz admitted that he still gains some weight at times because the metabolism is different for different athletes, but he tries to ensure that he looks after his fitness as well as he can, when he is not playing cricket.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
