Ireland thumps West Indies by 9 wickets to qualify for the Super 12

In a drastic turn of events, two-time champions West Indies have been knocked out of the T20 World Cup 2022. They suffered a thumping 9-wicket loss at the hands of Ireland to suffer an early exit from the tournament.

Opting to bat first, it was a horrendous outing for the West Indies with the bat as they lost wickets in clusters and struggled to get going. Only Brandon King looked settled and scored unbeaten 62 runs.

He was complimented well by Johnson Charles (24) and Odean Smith (19*) as West Indies posted a moderate total of 145 runs on the board. For Ireland, Gareth Delany was the pick of bowlers with figures of 3/16.

Chasing the target, Irish openers Paul Stirling (66*) and Andrew Balbirnie (37) came out all guns blazing and tanked West Indies bowlers all over the ground. Lorcan Tucker (45*) then provided the finishing touches for his side and helped his side defeat West Indies by 9 wickets and qualify for the Super 12 stage.
