Dinesh Karthik thinks Shikhar Dhawan is in a bind after Ishan Kishan’s double century since the experienced opener failed throughout the series.
Dhawan had a forgettable trip, while Kishan created history against Bangladesh on Saturday by scoring the quickest double-hundred in one-day international history.
It is predicted that Shubman Gill, Kishan, and Dhawan would compete for one of the starting berths in the next World Cup. But Karthik worries that Kishan’s success might put the seasoned opener in a bind.
The wicketkeeper was reported by Hindustan Times as saying that, if Rohit Sharma is fit, Dhawan may be dropped from the team for the Sri Lanka series.
According to Karthik, Sharma would have been benched in favour of Gill in the third One-Day International against Bangladesh had Gill been included in the team. The experienced wicketkeeper was pleased with how Kishan handled his chance.
Dinesh Karthik said, “Shubman Gill has been doing so well. If Rohit Sharma is available for the Sri Lankan series, somebody like Shikhar Dhawan might miss out. That could be a sad end to a glorious career”. (To Cricbuzz).
Even getting a game, much alone a good run in the side or a preferred batting position, is challenging for India. It’s not news to Ishan Kishan. In his mind, nobody can know it. But he doesn’t want to draw any solace from it. Kishan, who made history by being the quickest batsman to score a double century in one-day internationals, said he will continue to do his best whenever given the opportunity.
Kishan had an ODI career high of 93 in his last game before this series, however, he was left out of the starting lineup for the next five games. Had Rohit Sharma been fit, he probably wouldn’t have played here, either. Kishan batted with such confidence that he considered going for a triple-century as he came to the crease.
