“The rift is so real and open”, Twitter reacts as Virat Kohli unfollows Sourav Ganguly on Instagram

According to reports, former India captain and current RCB batter Virat Kohli has stopped following Sourav Ganguly on Instagram. Ganguly is the former president of the BCCI and the director of cricket for the Delhi Capitals. This is the result of a viral video showing the two of them not shaking hands. Ganguly skipped the line to advance as RCB’s Virat Kohli was chatting to DC’s Ricky Ponting instead of shaking hands with him after their previous game.

On April 15, RCB beat DC by 23 runs, giving the visitors their fifth straight loss in the competition. While everyone was shaking hands, Kohli and Ponting were spotted conversing among themselves for a while. This gave Ganguly the opportunity to cut in front of Ponting and shake hands with the teammates standing behind Kohli.

According to cricketcountry.com, Ganguly’s name is no longer included in the list beneath Kohli’s ‘following’ column, where it previously was. Ganguly’s ‘following’ column, on the other hand, lists Kohli, hinting that the RCB batter is followed by the veteran rather than the other way around.

Virat Kohli has unfollowed Sourav Ganguly on Instagram

When Virat Kohli was heading Team India and Sourav Ganguly was president of the BCCI, there were rumours that the two didn’t get along. Rohit Sharma replaced Virat Kohli as captain before Sourav Ganguly’s presidency ended. Ganguly has previously said that the decision to make the alterations had been made jointly by the BCCI and the selectors.

After waiting a week, Kohli shockingly admitted that he and the selection panel had never spoken. During a press conference in 2021-22, while India was touring South Africa, Kohli said:

“There was no prior communication with me at all since I announced the T20 captaincy decision until the 8th of December. I was told that the selectors had decided that I won’t be ODI captain to which I replied, ‘Okay, fine’. There was no prior communication. That is what happened.”
