“Rohit Vs Virat debate exists only because of passion of fans, there is nothing more to it,” says BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal

Arun Dhumal recalled that such kind of debates have existed in Indian cricket in the past as well

The BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal has made it clear that there is no rift between the current Indian captain Rohit Sharma and the former Indian captain Virat Kohli and whatever is being said or written on social media about a possible rift between these two players is only a result of the passion of fans.

According to Arun Dhumal, who was in a conversation with the journalist Vimal Kumar, social media is there for everyone to express their opinion. There is no restriction on anyone as far as sharing a sporting opinion is concerned and because of the fact that a lot of fans are emotionally connected to Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, they tend to say things in favor of their favorite player.

Dhumal said that it’s not the first time that it’s happened in Indian cricket. Even many years back, fans had their own views on Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev, and similarly, in the era of the 2000s, there were different kinds of views on Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly.

The current scenario related to Rohit and Kohli is pretty much the same. It’s just the views and the passion of the fans which keep this debate alive and there is nothing more to it.

Virat Kohli left the Indian captaincy himself: Arun Dhumal

Arun Dhumal also insisted that BCCI didn’t have a significant role to play in Virat Kohli leaving the Indian captaincy and he left it because he had made up his own mind and he let the board know his decision, which the board accepted.

Since the time Kohli has left the Indian captaincy, there have been a lot of debates about his spot in the Indian T20I side, with many people not convinced that he needs to be picked in India’s T20I team anymore.

Dhumal, however, refused to make any comment on selections and said that it’s the prerogative of the selection committee to decide who should be picked in the Indian team and who shouldn’t.
