“Rohit Sharma has an edge over Babar Azam as captain,” Waqar Younis says Rohit has far more leadership experience than Babar

Babar Azam is the first Pakistan captain ever to win a match against India in a World Cup

Former Pakistan captain Waqar Younis is of the view that Babar Azam might be as important to the Pakistan cricket team as Rohit Sharma is to the Indian cricket team from batting point of view, but when it comes to captaincy, Rohit Sharma has an edge over Babar.

Waqar Younis, who will be commentating on the Asia Cup 2022, was recently talking to the telegraph India where he said that Rohit Sharma has been playing international cricket for a far longer period of time as compared to Babar and he has also played his cricket under the guidance of some very good captains.

So, Rohit’s leadership at the moment is at a higher level than Babar, who is only a couple of years into his leadership role with the Pakistan cricket team.

Rohit Sharma has not lost even one series since becoming India’s full time captain

Babar Azam is the first Pakistan captain ever to win a game against India in a World Cup, but under his captaincy so far, Pakistan has not beaten the big teams consistently. Pakistan lost a test series against Australia at home last winter and before that, they had lost ODI and T20I series against England playing away in UK.

Recently, Pakistan couldn’t win the test series in Sri Lanka after getting 1-0 up in the first test match and they were then given a very close fight in the ODI series in Netherlands, even though the Pakistanis won that series by 3-0 eventually.

Rohit, on the other hand, has not lost a single series in any format of the game since he has been given the charge of the Indian team across all formats. The 35-year old has already got an Asia Cup title to his name as captain, which he had won while captaining India in 2018. Rohit was India’s vice-captain in 2018, but had captained in Asia Cup because Virat Kohli had not participated in that tournament.
