“Respect, Narayan Jagadeesan,” Twitter reacts in awe as Narayan Jagadeesan shatters all records of List A cricket, goes past Indian captain Rohit Sharma’s highest score of 264

Narayan Jagadeesan has also become first ever player to score 5 back to back hundreds in Vijay Hazare trophy

Narayan Jagadeesan, the wicketkeeper-batsman of Tamil Nadu, was in brilliant form in the ongoing Vijay Hazare trophy and he had already scored 4 back to back hundreds in the tournament, but today in the game against Arunachal Pradesh, the right-hander shattered all records of Indian domestic as well as world List A cricket.

Jagadeesan didn’t just become the first ever player in the history of India’s domestic white ball cricket to score 5 consecutive hundreds, but he also became the world’s highest-ever run scorer in List A cricket in one single inning.

Before Jagadeesan, the other Indian player who had held the record of being the highest run scorer in one single List A innings was the Indian captain Rohit Sharma, who had actually done it in an international game against Sri Lanka at Eden Gardens in 2014.

Jagadeesan and Sudharsan added more than 400 for the first wicket

Today Tamil Nadu batted first against Arunachal Pradesh and it was not just Jaggi who was in fine flow with the bat, but the other opener of Tamil Nadu, Sai Sudharsan, was belting the ball to all corners of the ground as well. The duo actually had a partnership of more than 400 runs for the first wicket before Sudharsan got out.

Jaggi, however, still carried on his merry way and at one point, it seemed as if the opener would score first ever triple hundred in List A cricket’s history, but he was eventually dismissed for 277 after hitting 15 sixes in one inning.

Recently Jaggi was released by Chennai Super Kings and one of the reasons behind his release was understood to be his inability to play the big shots. But in today’s game, he showed what he can do when he is in full flow with the bat.

Twitter was full of comments on Jagadeesan’s innings today as many Indian fans followed the game on BCCI’s official app –

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
