The race to the IPL 2022 Orange Cap is currently underway, with many big names competing for the coveted prize. Last year, Chennai Super Kings opener Ruturaj Gaikwad won the award for scoring the most runs in the competition. However, this year, Gaikwad has had an inconsistent run. He has managed only one fifty thus far in IPL 2022.
It will be great if Gaikwad can bounce back in the race to win the IPL 2022 Orange Cap and retain his crown, but former Indian cricket team head coach Ravi Shastri does not expect him to make a miraculous comeback.
In a recent interaction with Star Sports, Ravi Shastri picked his top two contenders to win the Orange Cap in IPL 2022. He picked Rajasthan Royals opener Jos Buttler along with Lucknow Super Giants skipper KL Rahul.
Both Buttler and Rahul have scored big for their respective franchises in the new IPL season. While Buttler has smashed three centuries in IPL 2022, Rahul has registered two hundreds. Despite getting out on the first ball twice, Rahul is still in the race to win the Orange Cap for the second time in his career.

KL Rahul is the new name of consistency: Aakash Chopra comments as LSG captain races in IPL 2022 Orange Cap leaderboard
After Jos Buttler scored his third century of IPL 2022, it seemed like he had taken a giant lead on the batters’ leaderboard, and no one would end close to him. However, KL Rahul registered his second ton of the season and bounced back. Here’s what former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel:
“He showed the entire world that KL Rahul is different. Rahul is the new name of consistency because the last time also they met Mumbai, it was at the Brabourne Stadium, he hit a century and now he has hit a hundred at Wankhede.”
