“If they think, ‘Oh, hell! We’ve got to face Ashwin and he could get me out,” Ian Chappell on whether having too many left-handers is a cause of concern for Australia

Australia has 7 left-handers in their squad.

Former Australian cricketer Ian Chappell has given his take on whether having too many left-handers is a cause of concern for Australia. He said that it’ll only become a problem if they will think that they have to face R Ashwin.

R Ashwin is a threat to Australia’s lineup having 7 left-handers in the squad

India is all set to host Australia for the four-match Test series. The first game between the nations will be played on February 9th in Nagpur followed by the second Test to be played on 17th February in Delhi.

The third game between India and Australia is slated to take place on 1st March in Dharamshala whereas the last game will be played on 9th March in Ahmedabad.

The series no doubt will give fans enthralling entertainment and it’s fair to say that there will be few key players to watch out for from both sides. One among them will be veteran Indian off-spinner R Ashwin considering the number of left-handers in Australia’s squad.

Australia has 7 left-hand batters in the team and it’s fair to say that Ashwin is at his best when he’s bowling to the southpaws. Off-spinner’s battle with left-handers is likely entering the lion’s den. His record against left-handers is exceptional as he has taken over 200 wickets and has often troubled them with his Carom ball.

“If they think, ‘Oh, hell! We’ve got to face Ashwin and he could get me out,” Ian Chappell on whether having too many left-handers is a cause on concern for Australia

With Australia having plenty of all-rounders in the team, former cricket Ian Chappell feels that it’ll be a problem if the team has this thing in their head. Speaking to ESPNCricinfo, he said: “It’s only really a problem if the left-handers think, ‘Oh, hell! We’ve got to face Ashwin and he could get me out.”

It remains to be seen how Australian batters will fair against the challenge of R Ashwin.
