Delhi Capitals defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by 44 runs on Sunday. Chasing a stiff total of 216, KKR found itself in a tough position after the loss of a few early wickets. Ajinkya Rahane fails once again for KKR
Barring the season opener against CSK in which he made 44 runs, so far, Rahane has recorded scores of 9(10), 12(11), 7(11) and 8(14). Especially in the game against DC, with his team chasing 216, a strike rate of 57.14 was unacceptable.
Rahane is an experienced player and there were expectations that he would put in a few decent performances for KKR. However, it has not happened so far. Especially with Rahane’s opening partner Venkatesh Iyer also going through a rough patch, the middle-order of KKR has been forced to step up more often than not.
It has actually been a tough year or so for the Mumbai cricketer. He was dropped from Team India and now, it is likely that he could be benched at KKR. While Sunil Narine is a top option to replace Rahane as the opener, KKR has plenty of options such as Sheldon Jackson, Rinku Singh and B Indrajith. It needs to be seen if Brendon McCullum and co. will take a decision in this regard for the next match.

Meanwhile, fans were extremely disappointed with the way the signing of Rahane has turned out so far. While Shubman Gill has been exceptional so far, a few fans could not digest the fact that his replacement has not been doing well.
