Pat Cummins targets subcontinent dominance, eyes series win in India next year

The mighty Australian test team has already won a test series against Pakistan in the latter’s home in March. Recently, they have defeated the Sri Lankan team by 10 wickets at Galle and now would be eyeing to seal the series by winning the next test match too, and if this happens, it would be their second straight Test series win in the subcontinent.

However, Australia has never won a Test series in India since 2004-05. This time around, their new skipper Pat Cummins is hoping to win a red ball series on Indian soil. For the ongoing WTC 2022-23 cycle, Australia is bound to visit India in February-March 2023 for a four-match series. Cummins thinks of it to showcase the team’s outstanding cricketing ability and defeat the hosts at their home.

Pat Cummins emphasized on winning Tests overseas-

We’ve had Marnus (Labuschagne), Travis Head, Cam Green, Alex Carey (who all) haven’t played test matches in conditions that have spun this much,” said Pat Cummins as quoted by Cricket Pakistan.

We have a big series next year in India, so this can really help develop and fast track our batters, if you want to be the number one Test team in the world you’ve got to be winning overseas,” he added.

Cummins was handed the Test captaincy for Australia ahead of the 2021-22 Ashes series when the then captain Tim Paine took a break from cricket because of being involved in some scandal. Cummins accepted this challenge very heartedly and won the Ashes with a magnificent 4-0 win. Cummins currently is enjoying his tenure as the leader of the ‘Kangaroos’.

Australia have not won a Test series in India since the 2004/05 season when they won the four-match series 2-1 with one game being washed out due to rain. The victory came under stand-in captain Adam Gilchrist as regular skipper Ricky Ponting was ruled out of the first three Tests due to an injury.
